Charlie, thanks for reading and leaving a comment. It is hard to get people to actually do the math and think through what investing in your personal house looks like in terms of return on investment. While owning can work well, it depends on your situation and what you do with the money you save by renting (if you invest it or just leave it in the bank, etc).

However, owning rental property is much different. You can take a 0% return (personal house) to a 20% annual return (investment property) by getting someone else to pay your mortgage for you. While owning a home is not an investment, owning a rental house certainly can be, if done properly.
