I have had a different experience. The last 3 months have been very good for me as a writer on Medium. May was was best month ever (1.5 year history). I got discouraged last year when my earnings dropped off, so I wrote less and made less. This year I doubled down and write more and made more. No one will understand the algorithm, and it likely changes every day. Just keep writing quality work and build an audience.
