It's not just consumption that creates jobs but the ability to find new products and services for the market that did not exist before or improve on ones that did. Entrepreneurs fill a special and important role in society because they keep us moving forward towards better and better products and services. There was no market for the iPhone before Apple invented it, and now it is massive, and many people enjoy the product, and many people are employed because of it, making society better off than it was before in many ways. Capitalism is far from perfect, but it's the best system humans have invented so far to bring wealth to the masses. It has lifted billions out of poverty across the world. Some like to criticize it because it isn't a perfect system, but of course it can't be because it is run by imperfect humans (us). But compared to the known alternatives, it's a slam dunk.
