Leigh, thanks for reading, as always. And good question. Getting the match is a good thing, and that is exactly what I do. However, everyone's situation is unique, so it's hard to generalize. Some people will spend everything they earn and never invest, so those people should max out their 401k or risk having nothing. Some people have a 401k with a lot of money in it, so they should probably diversify by investing in something else. 401k's are great, but they are limited. The idea is to understand and think through the options critically to figure out what is best for you. If you learn about investing, you can likely make good progress outside your 401k, but it does take some effort. Those are my thoughts, anyways, how about you? How do you think about it?
