Marc, good overview. I definitely agree that options have some advantages over stocks. Of course leverage works both ways, as you pointed out, and it can magnify your losses as well. But it is better than margin. I would rather buy a put than short sell a stock, for example.

These days I prefer to sell options, both for the income and to gain control (or sell) of stocks I want to own at a good price.
