Money isn't the goal, it's the freedom that money buys. If you don't have anything outside of work, retirement will not be fun. I've seen plenty of people with lots of money in the bank afraid to retire - because they don't know anything outside of work.

Find some hobbies to get good at, write a novel, travel, start a business, spend time with family and friends - this is what it is about. Doing your own thing rather than having someone tell you what to do all the time.
