I've written numerous articles about using single-family rentals to build wealth, which I have done quite successfully. The mistake I made when I first started working was buying a big, expensive house, because I thought I was "investing". I couldn't save any money, and I couldn't invest. Once I changed up my lifestyle and turned that house into a rental, my fortunes took off.
