Rich, I understand how you feel. I’m American and write for a mostly US audience, but I’ve lived most of my adult life overseas in developing countries, much of it in Africa. Investment opportunities are different everywhere. Real estate may not be a great investment in Kazakhstan like it is in the US (if done prudently), but something else will be. Oftentimes when investment options are limited, starting your own business can be a good alternative. It takes more work and you are likely to fail at first, but you will learn and get better. There are often so many unfulfilled needs and wants in less-developed economies. In Africa, lots of people are starting businesses around providing solar power for homes and businesses because the governments can’t or won’t. Others do it through logistics or cold chain or e-eommerce. Being from Kazakhstan, you will know better than outsiders what the opportunities are. You just have to learn how to seize them to make something out of it and make your country better at the same time. What does Kazakhstan not have that it needs and its people want?
