This is a great example of Wall Street “selling shit as long as shit can be sold” as Charlie Munger has put it. The ignorant masses throw money at meaningless labels. The real question is what is a person or company really doing for the environment. Does digging up lithium to make batteries and building cars in Chinese factories powered by coal as Tesla does help the environment? I don’t believe so. The environment needs solutions that reduce our use of energy and natural resources like a carbon tax that will make consumption more expensive and less popular, but people would rather pretend to help as they drive a Tesla and invest in ESG funds.
