Todd, good discussion. I'm a value investor and spend my time looking for needles in the haystack that can provide good returns due to market mispricing. It's not easy, but it can be quite rewarding. The pandemic last year provided a lot of opportunity as "the market" often over-reacts to both good and bad news. This creates buying opportunities for those of us that look at fundamentals and try to avoid the manic/depressive actions of most investors.
I would say that if anyone is interested in buying individual stocks (as opposed to a low-cost index), they need to do their homework and learn how to calculate intrinsic value through earnings power value, discounted cash flow, or another strategy. It is a lot of work, but the rewards are worth it for those of us so inclined.
